The Art & History of Drumming

Learning the history of drumming is essential for any drummer, as it provides context and appreciation for the art form. Understanding the evolution of rhythms and techniques across different cultures enriches a drummer's perspective and enhances their creativity.

Additionally, mastering fundamental techniques allows drummers to build a strong foundation, enabling them to explore more complex patterns and styles.

This combination of historical knowledge and technical skill ultimately leads to greater musical expression and versatility.

Send me an e mail with your answers and I will respond to your answers.

If I think I can help you, we can book a coaching session of at least one hour. There is a $100 deposit for the coaching session. After your session, it's up to you to decide if you'd like a custom study and practice plan. Once I have had time to think of what needs and work would be the best in helping you achieve your goals, I will email you a preview syllabus/outline to make sure we are tracking. You will then please respond to the proposal with your comments. After I review your comments, I will finish your plan. A $100 deposit on the plan will be required at that time. I will mail your plan within 2-4 weeks after I receive your deposit. You are paying for my time and many, many years of teaching experience with all kinds of drummers - I have seen it all!

Think! You will have to be disciplined to work on your own, which is the only way anybody accomplishes any skill. Weekly lessons are for little kids and babysitting schools.

In some cases, you may have to purchase selected drum books for only a few select pages as I don't copy copywritten publishing. I do not teach privately on zoom. I find it limiting. I only teach in-person and

only advanced jazz studies, drums and percussion, music theory, and enough piano to understand song form and create drum charts. On occasion, I might help my students produce a recording of original music. I have other businesses which require my attention, so space is limited and you are really being auditioned for your seriousness.

My own teachers said "respect the tradition of all that came before you and pass it on to those that appreciate and respect the tradition." We must all stand on the shoulders of the pioneering giants to make any progress and contribute to the tradition and eventually pass it on out of respect and the love of drumming. In sharing, we grow.

Are you really ready to get serious and make the commitment to whatever is required as a drummer, as your calling in life, and example of human excellence in art?
